Founder and Director - Paul Nikkel

As the Founder and Director of Soft Immersion Labs, Paul Nikkel brings over 9 years of Microsoft Windows Application development experience to the team. After graduating with honors from the Engineering Physics Program at the University of British Columbia in 1992, Paul has worked with a number of technology development companies with a focus on consumer application software development under the Microsoft Windows operating system. Amongst his successful designs, Paul was the inventor and designer of the award winning Spin Wizard Windows Navigation Tool for Tanisys Technologies of Austin, Texas. While with Tanisys, Paul also designed and implemented the low-level drivers for the first programmable joystick to hit the PC market.

After returning from Texas to his home province of BC, Paul joined Rainmaker Digital Pictures Group Ltd. in the capacity of Senior Software Engineer. While at Rainmaker, Paul was charged with the conceptualization, architectural design and implementation of Rainmaker Digital Pictures LIVE Engine technology. The LIVE Engine technology, capable of compositing and controlling multiple video, CGI and audio objects in real time on the Windows 95 platform, is an efficient Interactive Multimedia Software Development Kit that allows for quick development of interactive software titles. Paul began development of what has become VLynX HyperVideo and founded Soft Immersion Labs in October of 1997.

Paul has also been involved in a number of computer based research projects, including a project focused on three dimensional modeling by mathematical correlation of multiple camera views of an object. He was also a early user of GL (a three-dimensional modeling interface) in the modeling of mechanical deformation in collisions.

Paul's strong interest in new and exciting technologies along with his in-depth knowledge of consumer software development and the internal structure and operation of the Microsoft Windows operating systems gives Soft Immersion Labs a qualified and motivated founder, director and designer.
